A couple of days ago tragedy struck multiple Nigerian families after discovering their children were taken by a gunman while they were in school.
Incident
In Nigeria, authorities stated around 300 students were abducted on the dangerous streets they used to get to school. Police stated many violent attacks occur on these streets. The ages of these children include 8 years to 18 years.
This event brought up the African security crisis that had been an issue for far too long. This security issue puts the safety of many communities at risk. This is because of the small availability of government protection in this area, often lacking police or military personnel.
Active Searches
Police are still on the search for the missing children and have estimated around 28 children have escaped the custody of the gunman. Nigerian troops are in contact with the police as they scan the areas for the abductees. Parents have also banded together to form vigilante groups to help the cause; creating vigilante groups taking matters into their own hands.
Current Standings
The children have now been missing for over 48 hours which marks a turning point in their salvation. The authorities usually have a time clock of 48 hours before the case begins to be hopeless. Kidnappers usually get tired of their victims at this point which leads to them killing the captives.
With kidnappings being common in this area it is likely the captores are skilled in their practice which drains the hope of finding the captives even further.
