A Nightmare for many parents becomes a reality after a man named Nathan Bake uses the internet to entertain others by showing videos of child abuse to the world.
Nathan Bake Strikes
Nathan Bake is a 28-year-old male who was leading a website called Annex. Annex was created for users to upload videos of child abuse in any form as entertainment to others. To have access to view child abuse content, a member must upload videos of abusive content to be given further access to the site and its other realms. Nathan Bake first started as a member then worked his way up to a moderator to then leading the website.
Annex
Annex had over 90,000 members who used the platform to discuss and share brutal cases of child abuse for pure enjoyment. The abuse included abuse called “huntcore” which involved the sexual abuse of babies and toddlers; this was a favorite among many viewers. Annex was careful with how they ran their website in fear of getting caught. An undercover police officer was put on the case after investigating Bake and his involvement in the site. The mission was difficult to gather evidence since it was required to post explicit content of child abuse to view it on the website as a safety precaution for any unwanted viewers. However, with persistent pressure from the undercover officer, one of the members slipped and revealed some footage. The found footage was enough to charge Bake to a 16-year sentence.
Additional Information
Bake admitted to multiple other crimes regarding child abuse before ever participating in Annex. With this, Bake was placed on the sex offenders list for life.
Over 3.6 million explicit photos were found on Bake’s phone at the time of his arrest. In his house were also found children's possessions such as underwear and other personal belongings.
The NCA stated that the site was well run and organized, it would be difficult for the regular eye to see if something was wrong in the first place. The NCA also discovered that nothing was off limits or censored on the site, everything was encouraged.
Aftermath
Nathan Bake and a few other moderators of the site are still serving their sentences. Not every person involved was found since the site was quite anonymous to protect the identities of the aggressors. Annex was shut down and is no longer available for engagement.
The images and videos presented in Annex were extreme and disturbing levels of abuse. Annex mainly featured more severe cases since the viewers of the website preferred the more graphic content. Police are continuing to investigate the activity to uncover more detailed information regarding the moderators and viewers who were active on the site.
