A beloved show called, Squid Games, was released in 2021 and became highly popular around the globe recognizing the actors and the show itself. Many other games and TV shows were inspired by Squid Games which further interested the public about the show. Squid Games is a Korean-inspired drama where the audience follows the life of a poor single father trying to make a living for his daughter. He runs into a mystery man which leads him to participate in an unusual competition for a big cash prize that could change his life for the better. Not knowing what he gets himself into the competition and ends up being very dangerous. Looking into the friendships that are made and broken throughout the series Squid Games is a hooking drama the tears at the heart strings of the audience. The main actors on the shows were nominated for many Grammys and Oscars for their performance on the show. One of the actors receiving these awards was Oh Young-soo. He was nominated for multiple awards for his acting on the show and became a popular figure in Korea which furthered his career in acting. He continued many projects after the show due to his fame. However, this all came to a halt when a woman spoke up about sexual misconduct that occurred between herself and Oh in 2017. As this case unravels it could be the end of Oh's career.
Background
Squid Games aired in 2021 which quickly gained fame from around the world due to its unusual plot and the excellent acting skills of the actors on set. Oh young-soo was one of the main characters on the set creating the fame for the show. Back in 2017 Oh came in contact with a woman who later claimed sexual misconduct on Oh’s part. While reviewing her statement she was asked why she didn't speak up earlier; she stated it was because he wasn't in light at the time getting attention and admired by the public. She also said it didn't feel right to not say anything about a man people think is a great person.
The Trial of Oh
When these claims first emerged, Oh denied them indefinitely. Shortly after more evidence was gathered, Oh was put on suspension for sexual assault. He continued to deny the claims as the case moved forward. More evidence was gathered which pointed to Oh as being a sexual predator which placed him on the sexual offenders watch list. After this was released Oh apologized but continued to defend his position in the case.
Impact on Oh’s Career
Overall this greatly impacted Oh’s career negatively. Oh was now in the light that he didn't want to be in which caused bad publicity from the internet and directors. Oh lost almost every deal he had with producers for future shows that he would star in. Likely meaning if there is a season two of Squid Games the character would either be replaced or written off. Some of Oh’s nominations were also taken away due to the report. Oh, will likely not have a steady career moving forward and not be seen on screen as often or ever.
